UPDATE: Police Arrest Man Who Stabbed Queens Woman Multiple Times in Union City; Murder Charges

Police took a man in custody after he savagely stabbed a woman to death in Union City this morning.

According to Hudson County authorities, at approximately 5:25 a.m., the Union City Police Department received a report of a person stabbed at 3612 New York Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, responding Union City Police Officers encountered a male with a knife inside the building.

Police say officers were able to secure the knife and detain the man.

Police identified the man as Kevin Cortes, 26, of Union City, when Ems transported him to Palisades Medical Center for evaluation.

Authorities say officers searching the building located a female victim on the third floor of the residence with multiple wounds to her upper body.

Police identified the woman as Ms. Giselle Bravo, 20, of Queens, NY.

EMS administered Bravo lifesaving aid at the scene then transported her to the Jersey City Medical Center where doctors pronounced her dead at approximately 6:40 a.m.

The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police charged Cortes with Murder, Possession of a Weapon (Knife) for an Unlawful Purpose,'and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Union City Police Department for assisting in the investigation.

The Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit continues to actively investigate the case with assistance from the Union City Police Department.
