UPDATE: Physical Altercation Leaves 35-Year-Old Man Critically Injured in Paterson

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announce that at approximately 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning, an officer from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Department on routine patrol came upon a crowd of people outside the Tio Gowon Bar located at 243 21st Avenue in the City of Paterson.

Officials say at that time, the officer discovered one 35 year-old-male victim, later identified as Ludwig Alvarez from Paterson, lying unresponsive in the street.

Mr. Alvarez was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The initial investigation revealed there was a fight outside the bar involving a large group of people, and Mr. Alvarez was beaten unconscious during the altercation.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
