When EMS and rescue crews arrived at the scene at around 7:15 am, they found a severely injured 56-year-old man from New York lying on the floor after falling from the balcony in an apparent attempt to harm himself Jersey City Police officials said.

Authorities identified the victim as Mr. James Kenny who ultimately transitioned on Wednesday, July 31st from massive injuries due to the fall at Jersey City Medical Center.

According to a statement released by The Slipper Room variety theater in New York City, Kenny was a weekend doorman for the establishment and performed at the theater at times.

Officials at The Slipper Room released the following:

"We are sad to announce that we lost our dear James Kenny suddenly and unexpectedly today, following a tragic accident.

Many of you will be familiar with James as our weekend doorman and for his magical closing performances as Uncle Earl, belting out Sweet Caroline.

Sharply dressed with a beautiful smile, a sunny demeanor, good humor and a consistently positive attitude to life, James Kenny has been with the Slipper Room since the beginning.

We lost one of our oldest and dearest family members today and we are all very much in shock – James is irreplaceable".

How and why Mr. Kenny remained inside NJ's premier center for the application of science education after operational hours have many in the Jersey City community questioning security measures at the facility.

Liberty Science Center officials would only say that Mr. Kenny was not an employee of the establishment but wouldn't mention why he was there during the overnight hours.
