UPDATE: Firefighters Among Several Injured in 3-Alarm Newark House Fire

The cause of a fire that tore through a Newark home has authorities investigating.

According to authorities, at approximately 11:53 p.m. last night, 70 firefighters responded to a 3-story residence on the 900 block of South 18th Street for a report of a fire.

Upon arrival, crews rescued as many as five individuals from the home. Two adults and a child were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and University Hospital to be monitored for smoke inhalation. The two additional occupants refused medical attention.

In addition, four firefighters, were transported to University Hospital with minor injuries authorities said.

The fire was placed under control at 1:29 a.m.

The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assists in relocating the residents.

The exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the Arson Unit of the Newark Fire Division.
