UPDATE: Man Killed in Bloomfield Police Involved Shooting

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino has announced that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Professional Standards Bureau is investigating a police involved shooting in Bloomfield this morning in which one male was fatally wounded.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 8:00 am. at a residence on Greenbrook Drive.

Bloomfield police officers responded to a 911 call of a domestic violence incident.

Arriving officers were confronted by a male who was armed with a knife and the officers also observed a female suffering from apparent stab wounds.

The officers attempted to disarm the suspect when he lunged towards the officers, causing one police officer to discharge his weapon.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:30 am. EMS transported to an area hospital where she is currently in stable condition.

The suspect has been identified as Leroy Frank, age 60.

The female victim is 54 years old and the estranged wife of the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.

Attorney General guidelines require all county Prosecutor’s Offices to respond to incidents whenever a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon.
