UPDATE: Jersey City Man Charged with Allegedly Raping Two Women

Authorities say on Tuesday, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit charged Darell McRae, 30, of Jersey City, in connection with two separate Jersey City incidents involving sexual assault that occurred on Monday, July 1, 2019.

Officials say in the first incident that occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m., McRae has been charged with Attempted Murder in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:5-1 and 2C:11-3, a first-degree crime; Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, a first-degree crime; Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1, a second-degree crime; Terroristic Threats in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3, a third-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon (Knife) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a third-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a fourth-degree crime.

According to officials, in the incident that occurred shortly after 2:40 a.m., McRae has been charged with Aggravated Sexual Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:14-2, a first-degree crime; Aggravated Assault in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-1, a second-degree crime; Terroristic Threats in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:12-3, a third-degree crime; Possession of a Weapon (Knife) for an Unlawful Purpose in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-4, a third-degree crime; and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Knife) in violation of N.J.S.A. 2C:39-5, a fourth-degree crime.

Detectives arrested McRae on these charges at the Hudson County Correctional Facility where he was being held on separate criminal charges from the Jersey City Police Department. He will be held at the HCCF pending his first appearance.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.

Officials say on Monday, shortly after 1:00 a.m., a Jersey City Police Department patrol unit was alerted to an injured female in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Stevens Avenue in Jersey City.

The victim, a 25-year-old from Bayonne, sustained a laceration on her neck and hand. She was treated at the scene by the responding officers and Emergency Medical Services before being transported to Jersey City Medical Center.

In the second incident that occurred shortly after 2:40 a.m., officials say Jersey City Police Officers responded to a report of sexual assault in the area of West Side Avenue and Union Street in Jersey City.

Responding police officers found a woman in that area who alleged that she was a victim of a sexual assault.

The victim, a 28-year-old from Jersey City, was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center for medical attention.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
