UPDATE: Irvington Man Arrested for Supermarket Robbery in Newark

Police in Newark announced the arrest of Mr. Michael Brodie, 29, of Irvington, who was wanted on a charge of robbery in connection with an incident that occurred on Monday, January 13.

Police say at approximately 8:20 p.m., a man wearing a Halloween mask entered Sidi Supermarket, located at 584 Orange Street, pointed a handgun at a clerk and demanded cash.

According to police, the suspect removed $150.00 from the cash register before fleeing on foot, headed eastbound on Orange Street and then north on North 11th Street.

Detectives investigating this incident identified Brodie as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.

He was arrested without incident yesterday after being observed by a commander of the 7th Precinct in the area of Park Avenue and North 6th Street.

Brodie faces charges of robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
