UPDATE: Essex Prosecutor Identifies 16-Year-Old East Orange Boy Shot Dead

Investigators for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are looking into the motive for a shooting that killed a teenage boy on a street in East Orange Tuesday afternoon.

According to a preliminary investigation, residents in Park Avenue and Lincoln Street dialed 911 after hearing gunfire rang out just before 1:45 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found Antoine Sanga-Niangara, 16 of East Orange, lying on the ground unconscious and unresponsive, suffering bullet wounds.

Offcials said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene around 1:52 p.m.

Police say they are on an active search for the suspect/s who pumped bullets into Antoine's body and left him lying on his back in broad daylight.

The active and ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force and East Orange police.
