UPDATE: Elizabeth Officer Performs CPR, Saves Unresponsive Drowning Child

EMS rushed a 1-year-old child to an area hospital after a police officer performed CPR on the unresponsive baby who almost drowned inside a pool at a home in Elizabeth Sunday evening.

Emergency responders were called to a home on Morristown Road, shortly after 5:30 p.m., Sunday after they received reports of an injured child at that location.

According to Spokesperson Ruby Contreras, emergency responder arrived to find the child underwater in the pool for a short time.

Spokesperson Contreras said when Officer Leo Nunes arrived at the scene, he started CPR and was able to bring the baby to a conscious state.

Officials say the child was transported to Beth Israel Hospital in Newark where she is reportedly doing well.

The incident remains under investigation.
