UPDATE: Authorities Identify Man Fatally Shot in Newark

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a double shooting that resulted in one fatality.

Authorities said at approximately 7:47 p.m., Pedro Dillahunt, 31, of Newark, was fatally shot in the 200 block of Hunterdon Street in Newark.

Medical staff pronounced Pedro dead at 8:06 p.m., according to authorities.

While investigating the scene, police found a second man shot but his injuries were not fatal.

Police said the unidentified victim was treated and is in stable condition.

His name is not being released at this time.
