UPDATE: 65-Year-Old Haledon Man, Owner Killed by Car at Dunkin Donuts Drive-Thru

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Deputy Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that at approximately 7:02, p.m. this evening, police responded to the Dunkin Donuts located at the intersection of Route 20 and East 33rd Street in the city of Paterson in response to a report of a motor vehicle accident.

Authorities said, upon their arrival at the scene, it was discovered that there was a single vehicle accident involving a 1999 GMC Savana Van and a pedestrian on the Dunkin Donuts property.

The driver of the van, a 59-year-old man from Paterson, and the only other passenger, a 15-year-old male also from Paterson, didn not suffer injuries in the accident.

Police said the pedestrian, Mr. Jose Furtado, 65-years-old from Haledon, suffered serious injuries in the collision and was taken to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Paterson where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 7:46 p.m.

Furtado owned the establishment according to authorities.

No criminal charges have been filed at this time, however the investigation remains active and ongoing.
