A man who suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Newark has been identified.
Police were called to the vicinity of Roseville Avenue and 2nd Avenue at around 7:46 p.m. after receiving reports of a person struck by a car.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found the severely injured unidentified person at that location.
The victim.was rushed to University Hospital where doctors pronounced the victim dead according to The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials identified the victim as 59-year-old Mr. Jose 'Papo' Castillo an said he lived in Newark for over 30 years. .
The driver of the vehicle was captured after the residents followed the vehicle on Lafayette Street in Newark's East Ward according to reports. There were no official reports of arrests.
