UPDATE: 21-Year-Old Man Found Shot Dead in New Brunswick

Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department said today that a New Brunswick man has died after being shot last night in the City.

According to officials, Sharif Austin, 21, of New Brunswick, died from multiple gunshot wounds on December 24, at approximately 12:20 am.

Detective Erica DiMarcello of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Mark Morris of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office began an investigation after police were alerted to the shooting at approximately 11:55 pm on December 23.

Police arrived to find the victim with multiple gunshots wounds on the corner of Lee Avenue and Handy Street. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

A formal finding regarding the cause of death is pending review by the Middlesex County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
