Union County Officials to Honor All-State Westfield High School, All-American Rutgers University Catcher with Field Dedication

Union County

The Union County Freeholder Board will hold a dedication and ribbon-cutting for the Jeff Torborg baseball field on Saturday, Sept. 7th, 1 p.m. at Echo Lake Park in Mountainside.

According to Union County Officials, Torborg, a Westfield native who also lived in Mountainside for 30 years, managed five Major League Baseball teams---the Indians, White Sox, Mets, Expos and Marlins--after a 10-year baseball career as a catcher for the Dodgers and Angels. He also coached the Yankees for ten years.

Torborg was also an All-State catcher for Westfield High School and an All-American catcher at Rutgers University. Torborg will be on hand for the dedication with his wife, Suzi, and family members.

Representatives from Major League Baseball are also expected to be on hand.

The dedication ceremony will be held before a Little League Baseball game.

The field, which is currently under renovation and expected to be completed within the next several weeks, is located just above the 911 Memorial in the park.

Officials say all are welcome to attend.
