Undefeated 13th Avenue/Dr. MLK School Girl's Basketball Team Victorious in Newark Elementary Championship

13th Avenue/Dr. MLK School Panther's number 11 Destiny Johnson led all scorers with 24 points to solidify her team's Newark Public Elementary School Championship and undefeated 2019 season.

The Saturday at 10:30 a.m. contest was held in the gymnasium of the Ronald G. Stone Athletic Complex at Weequahic High School placed the top-seeded 13th Avenue/Dr. MLK School Panthers against North Ward rivals the Sharks of Rafael Henandez.

13th Avenue/Dr. MLK Panther's Brittney Sinclair and Nylea Underwood displayed crafty defense techniques that took charge early in the game by smothering the offensive capability of Rafael Hernandez's guards. The pair forced several turnovers that assisted the team with easy scoring in front of several hundred spectators for an early morning display of talent for girl's basketball.

Johanna Ruiz and Faith Robinson also assisted in sealing the easy defeat of the Sharks with a 45-17 route to bring home the championship crown.

Superintendent Mr. Roger Leon was in attendance to present awards to both schools.
