UPDATE: Three Arrested in Newark East Ward Murder

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities have arrested three suspects in connection with the April 21st murder of William Porter in a parking lot on Oliver Street in Newark.

Authorities said, Porter, 23, of Newark, was gunned down at approximately 2:30 am. as he left a bar on Mulberry Street was fatally shot.

An investigation by the Essex County Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, led authorities to charge three individuals with the murder of Porter.

The three have been identified as: **Naim S. Jones, age 40, of Newark, Rashan Jackson, age 30 of Irvington, and Hakeem Maloney, age 37 of Irvington**

Authorities said all three suspects have been charged with Murder, conspiracy to commit Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.

**These are mere allegations lodged against the suspects. They are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.**

They are being held in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending a court appearance, according to Fennelly.

Prosecutor Murray has commended the work by the detectives and assistant prosecutors of the Major Crimes Task Force.
