Gunmen Chase Then Open Fire on Victim at Newark Gas Station

Authorities in Newark are on the search for a 4-door dark blue or black Audi with temporary license plates and possibly occupied by three suspects who officers believe are connected to several shootings around the shooting overnight.

In one of the incidents, police rushed to the scene of shots fired that rang out at the Exxon Gas Station located in the single digit block of Elizabeth Avenue shortly before 4 a.m.

According to preliminary reports, a vehicle that was being chased by the suspected vehicle sped into the service station causing the victim inside the car to crash into a gate at that location.

With the vehicle stopped and rested on a pole, the suspects' vehicle pulled up alongside the victim's vehicle and began to fire multiple times at the vehicle according to several witnesses.

The victim then exited the crashed vehicle and began to sprint towards the convenience store, that's located at the gas station when the gunmen sped the car behind him and fired several more rounds in his directions and towards the convenience store sending customers diving to the floor for cover witnesses said.

Police arrived at the scene where they found the victim suffering a gunshot injury to the back near the Avon Avenue side of the gas station where he was then transported to University Hospital in an unknown condition.

Police believe that the suspects are also wanted for a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Bergen Street and several attempted carjackings.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
