Robbery Suspect Attacks Woman in Newark

Newark

A woman suffered non-life threatening injuries after being attacked by a suspect during a robbery at a location in Newark Thursday evening.

According to police, the incident began at the Nevada Mall, where the suspect approached the woman and started a conversation where he allegedly begged the woman for cash just before 4:45 p.m.

Police say when the pair walked around the corner and out of view of the general public, the suspect reportedly brandished a knife and began to beat the woman on the Nevada Street side of the strip mall.

As witnesses attempted to help, the suspect then jumped into a silver Nissan that was reportedly stolen and occupied by several males.

Cops from The Essex County Sheriff's Office found the vehicle in the 80's block of Clinton Avenue (at Lincoln Park) a short time later and detained one person who is believed to be the suspect.

Police say the victim is expected to make a full recovery.
