Sick Prisoners Prompt Lock Down at Union County Jail

A New Jersey jail was placed on lock down Sunday afternoon after several prisoners fell ill inside the jail according to officials.

The lockdown occurred shortly before 1 p.m. at the Union County jail when officers noticed about four prisoners suffering an unidentified illness and in need of immediate medical attention.

According to Union County spokesperson Sebastian Delia, the prisoners were transported to an area hospital where 3 of them were treated and released several hours later. One of the prisoners remained at the hospital in stable condition Delia said.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the prisoners' illnesses Delia added.
