Serious Injuries for Man Shot at Housing Complex in Irvington

Irvington Township

A housing complex that's closely monitored by Irvington Police for heavy criminal activity in the area, erupted in gunfire this afternoon leaving a male victim struck and injured according to reports.

Police are regularly on assignment inside the Cresent Lane Housing Complex which is also referred to as "The Lane" by residents but it is not clear if officers were stationed there shortly before 4:30 p.m. when gunfire rang out in the complex, striking a man in the side reports said.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital where the extent of his injuries have only been reported as serious.

Police setup a vehicular command post on the weekends, in the center of the complex that has several buildings surrounding it including at least one senior citizen building.

Public records show that a steady portion of the township's reported crime points back to Crescent Lane.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

There were no arrests reported.

Residents said township officers usually provide security to the complex daily but were unsure and confused what happened to the officers this afternoon.
