NJ State Police officials are investigating a crash that resulted in severe injuries on a highway in Essex County on Monday night.
According to preliminary reports, emergency responders rushed to the northbound lanes of Route 1&9 near I-78 in Newark.
Upon arrival, they found a severely damaged vehicle at that location.
At least one person suffered 'life-threatening' injuries due to the collision, according to reports.
Police temporarily closed a section of the highway for the crash investigation.
The cause has not been determined at this time.
**UPDATE 6:10am**: NJ State Police offcials can not confirm a fatality and is looking into if it's their investigation.
