Pursuit of Suspects Wanted for Stripping Tires, Rims from Vehicle in Newark's Ironbound Section Ends in Irvington

A pursuit of a vehicle occupied by two suspects who were wanted for stripping tires and rims from a vehicle in Newark's Ironbound Section has ended in Irvington

Details regarding the pursuit are still developing but at around 4 a.m., police spotted a silver pickup truck occupied by masked men who were attempting to steal rims from a vehicle on Pulaski and New York Avenue.

When the suspects spotted officers, they sped away in the truck.

The chase touched off on a portion of Rt. 1&9 and Rt. 78 before the suspects bailed out in the area of Nye Avenue and Augusta Street in Irvington at around 5:50 a.m.

Police, with the help of NPD1 helicopter, gave chase to the masked men -for a short period- where they detained one person nearby.

Authorities are attempting to identify the suspect in an effort to determine if he was actually involved in the incident.

The second suspect remains at-large.

There were no injuries reported.
