EMS transported several people to University Hospital suffering various injuries after an early morning crash in Newark.
University Hospital rescue crews, EMS, and Newark Firefighters rushed to the southbound lanes of the highway, near the Newark Bay, just before 4:15 a.m. where they found the crashed vehicles with several occupants trapped inside.
Police closed the bridge in both directions as crews worked swiftly to extricate the victims from the badly damaged vehicle.
Early reports had four people transported to the hospital with one of the victims severely injured according to reports.
Police are actively investigating the cause of the crash.
