Newark Police Seeks Public's Help Locating Burglary Suspect

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating Joseph Purvis, 55, of Newark, who is wanted on an outstanding burglary.

According to police, officers took a report from a victim who stated that his vehicle, that was parked inside a parking garage at Park Place and Center Street, was broken into and personal items were stolen, sometime between Tuesday, September 5th and Thursday, September 7th.

Detectives would like to interview Joseph Purvis regarding this auto burglary.

Purvis is also wanted by the Newark Police on an outstanding burglary warrant and by Rutgers Police for multiple auto burglaries in the university’s parking areas throughout the city.

While police are actively searching for Purvis, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets.

This investigation is continuing.
