Police Search for Suspects Wanted for Armed Gas Station Robbery in Newark's South Ward

An early Tuesday morning armed robbery that occurred in Newark's South Ward has police searching for the suspects responsible.

According to a statement released by police, at approximately 1:45 a.m., a concerned citizen flagged down police officers who alerted them to a robbery in progress that was occurring at the Gulf Gas Station, located at 242 Elizabeth Avenue.

Police said upon their arrival; they learned that two armed black men exited an older model, gray 4-door Dodge Ram 1500, and demanded cash.

After taking the money, the suspects re-entered the vehicle, that was driven by a third suspect, and sped northbound onto Frelinghuysen Avenue authorities said.

Police described the first suspect as 6-feet tall and approximately 200 lbs. The suspect wore a black and gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants.

Authorities said the second suspect is also 6-feet tall and about 200 pounds who wore a red and gray hooded sweatshirt and dark pants. \

There is no immediate description available for the driver.
