UPDATE: Police say Newark Man Made False Carjacking Report

Police in Newark issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Stephone Cook, 46, for falsely reporting that he was carjacked on Thursday, August 16th.

Police say Cook reported that at 1:05 a.m., his gray 2015 Jeep Cherokee was stolen at gunpoint by an unknown male in the 200 block of South 8th Street.

Detectives investigating this incident developed evidence that Cook falsely reported the carjacking.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on September 7, 2018.

Police charged Cook with making a false report.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
