Police in Newark took the driver of a Penske rental truck in custody after he struck a police vehicle in the city's North Ward then fled the scene.
Officers chased the truck in the areas of Branch Brook Park and Lake Street at around midnight after the driver reportedly struck an Essex County Sheriff vehicle then kept going.
The truck came to a halt near the movie theater on Bergen Street and Springfield Avenue where officers took the suspect into custody.
An officer was evaluated but there were no serious injuries reported.
