Swift Arrest Made in Plainfield Shooting

Police took a man into custody and charged him was shooting a person in Plainfield on Friday.

Police say on Friday at approximately 4:55 pm, Plainfield Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Berckman Street regarding shots fired.

Upon arrival, they located shell casings in the area with no victim.

Shortly thereafter, we were contacted by an area hospital that a 27-year-old male entered with a non-life threatening shooting injury. Upon speaking with the victim, police say he was uncooperative and it was determined that he was in possession of illegal narcotics.

Officers and detectives quickly identified a 19-year-old suspect, Zion Morrison of Plainfield, NJ.

Police arrested Morrison without incident and the gun used in the shooting was recovered.

Police charged Morrison with attempted murder and various weapons offenses.

Police say at midnight on July 20, Plainfield Police Officers responded to the area of West 4th Street and Liberty Street on a ShotSpotter alert.

Upon arrival, they located two males, ages 22 and 26, and a 28-year-old female, all with non-life-threatening related injuries.

The three victims were taken to an area hospital for treatment police said.

The Plainfield Police were assisted by surrounding law enforcement agencies with crowd control and scene containment without incident.

No arrests have been made at this time, however, we are following leads.
