Plainfield Man Charged with Manslaughter after Fatal Fight

Plainfield

A Plainfield resident has been arrested and charged for his alleged role in an altercation that resulted in another city man’s death earlier this week, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Saturday.

Authorities said **Jamie Castillo Castro, 24,** is charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of **34-year-old Oscar Isaac Ramos Lopez.**

According to authorities, at approximately 11:15 p.m. Thursday, January 12, Plainfield Police Division patrol units responding to a report of a fight in the area of Park Avenue and West 2nd Street found Lopez unconscious in the street at that location.

He was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead the next day authorities said.

An investigation involving the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force and High Tech Unit, Plainfield Police Division, and Union County Sheriff’s Office’s Crime Scene Unit determined that following an exchange of words on the street, Lopez and Castro engaged in a physical altercation that ended with Lopez being fatally injured.

Castro was located and arrested Saturday, after which he was lodged in Union County Jail, with bail to be determined.

Anyone with information about this matter is still being urged to contact Homicide Task Force Sgt. Johnny Ho at 908-403-8271.
