UPDATE: Perth Amboy Shooting Under Investigation; Suspect Charged

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey announced that the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is actively investigating a Perth Amboy Police Department shooting last night in which no one was injured.

 

Perth Amboy Police reported that on Feb. 15th at 10:52 p.m. four city detectives were attempting to execute the arrest of Isaiah Peralta, 21, of Perth Amboy, a suspect wanted for a shooting that occurred earlier that morning in the city.

 

The investigation has preliminarily determined that when the officers approached, Peralta opened fire. They exited their vehicle, identified themselves as police officers, and certain officers returned fire.

No one was struck in the exchange of gunfire.

 

Police arrested Peralta and charged with four counts of attempted murder, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon, one count of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, one count of possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, and one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance to wit heroin with intent to distribute.

 

During the investigation of the incident, two others were detained, and one other was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance.

 

In addition, Peralta was also charged with aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose stemming from the original incident earlier that morning.

 

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating in accordance with the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General’s use of force guidelines.

 

The investigation is active and continuing.
