Perth Amboy Man Accused of Using Fraudulent Identities to Steal Over $250K in Film Equipment

Perth Amboy

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Chief Roman McKeon of the Perth Amboy Police Department announced today that a Perth Amboy man has been charged with using fraudulent identities to steal expensive film equipment from companies in three different states.

Authorities arrested and charged Terry Frempong-Masson, 30, of Perth Amboy, on Feb. 2nd with one count of theft by deception in the second degree, two counts of identity theft which are second and third degree crimes, one count of receiving stolen property in the second degree, one count of money laundering in the second degree, one count of conspiracy to commit theft by deception in the second degree, and one count of criminal attempt to commit theft by deception in the third degree.

The investigation by Sergeant Mabner Terron of the Perth Amboy Police Department and Detective Christopher Pennisi of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office determined that between Jan. 19th and Feb. 2nd, Masson placed online orders for the rental or purchase of film equipment from three film companies using fraudulent identities.

Using a fraudulent identity, Masson placed an order with a film company out of Chesterfield, Indiana and had the order shipped to his home on Harbortown Blvd. in Perth Amboy for film equipment in the amount of $30,000.

In addition, authorities said he placed a rental order with an Arizona based film equipment company in the amount of $114,000, to be delivered to the same Perth Amboy address. In addition, Masson traveled to Atlanta to receive over $130,000 worth of rental equipment from another film company which was acquired using a fraudulent identity.

The investigation is active and continuing.

Anyone with information is asked to call Sgt. Terron at (732) 324-3800 or Detective Pennisi (732) 745-3330.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Masson are merely accusations and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
