Pedestrian Killed by Car Near McDonald's Restaurant in Newark

Authorities in Newark are looking into a pedestrian strike that killed one person in Newark on Wednesday night.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of Thomas Street and Clinton Avenue to investigate reports of an injured person before 7:30 p.m.

Units arrived at the scene found the severely injured person who had been struck by a car near the McDonald's restaurant.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital where doctors pronounced the unidentified person dead a short time later.

Detectives for The Essex County Prosecutor's Office were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

There were no other injuries reported.
