Trooper Rear-Ended on Interstate 80 in Paterson

A trooper was unharmed after a car rear-ended his marked patrol vehicle on Interstate 80 this morning.

According to a statement released by authorities, at approximately 4:46 am, a Trooper stopped to assist a motorist at the scene of a two-car crash on Interstate 80 west near mile marker 59.8 in Paterson.

Police say the trooper - who was in a marked parked Ford Crown Victoria with emergency lights activated - was rear-ended by the Mercedes Benz.

Officials added that the trooper was out of the car at the time and did not suffer any injuries.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.

According to authorities, there were no other vehicles or passengers involved.

The crash remains under investigation.
