Overnight Alleged Parental Abduction in Newark Ends in Arrest in Neptune Township

Newark

Police in Neptune City detained a man who is believed to be responsible for his child's unauthorized removal from a home in Essex County on Monday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, Newark Police were called to an address in the 300 block of Broad Street after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident in progress shortly before 11:45 a.m.

Units that arrived at the scene were told by a female that the alleged bipolar father of a 1-year-old was on his medication when he became aggressive and snatched the child away, then fled the scene in a 2018 black Porche.

Police put out a statewide bulletin for the car that was last seen speeding away on I-280.

During the investigation, police say they attempted to contact the suspect via cell phone but were unsuccessful.

Police say shortly before 12:40 a.m., police in the Monmouth County town of Neptune City notified Newark that they found the vehicle with the child inside unharmed.

The father of the child was secured without further incident then held for Newark Police. As of 4:45 a.m., police have not released official charges for the man.

The incident remains under investigation.
