Orange Man Sentenced to 23 Years for Fatally Shooting Newark Man Then Dumping his Body in Driveway

Orange

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that Fateem Moses, 36, of Orange was sentenced to 23 years today by the Honorable Ronald Wigler, Presiding Judge of the Essex County Criminal Part.

Under the No Early Release Act, Moses must serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole, according to Assistant Prosecutor Adam Wells, who handled the case a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutors Office said. .

According to court documents, on Dec. 22, 2016, Moses pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter and unlawful possession of a handgun.

The charges arose from an incident that occurred on Feb. 14, 2016. Moses fatally shot Omar Faines, 31, of Newark in a car and then dumped his body in a driveway on Rose Terrace where his frozen remains were found the next morning, Wells said.

The motive for the killing was unclear, but Moses was close to the Faines family.

“Mr. Faines was brutally killed and dumped like trash in a driveway by a man who was close to him and his family,’’ said Wells. “That man will now spend more than two decades in a New Jersey State Prison for his crimes.’’

Moses had ten prior felony convictions out of Georgia, West Virginia and New Jersey for a range of offenses including theft, drugs, and assault.
