90-Year-Old Elizabeth Man Killed in Three-Alarm House Fire

Elizabeth Firefighters battled a 3-alarm fire that ignited three adjacent homes and killed one person overnight in the city.

According to fire officials, fire broke out at 629 Marshall Street at around 1:10 a.m. where crews arrived to find heavy fire throughout the structure with extension to both homes on both sides.

Upon arrival, crews were informed that there were possible trapped occupants inside the original fire building.

Firefighters attempted a primary search of the house but were driven back by heat and fierce flames.

Crews were able to knock the blaze down then perform a search where they found the 90-year-old man - who family later identified as Cesar Prats - dead in the first floor of the home, according to fire officials.

The cause of the fire remains under Investigation, but authorities believe the fire started in the first floor of the home.
