Newark Police Search for Suspects Wanted for Overnight South 19th Street Shooting

There were no injuries reported for a shots-fired incident that occurred in Newark's West Ward Saturday night.

According to police, police responded to the 300 block of South 19th Street, at approximately 10:40 p.m., to investigate reports of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, they found evidence that a shooting occurred, but after canvassing the area, officers located multiple shell casings but no victims.

Police say suspects armed with guns fired shots from a newer model Mercedes Benz SUV the sped from the scene. Authorities reported property damage after over a dozen bullets struck a car at that location.

NOTE: In a previous incident that occurred on Friday, police swarmed the area around Grove Street after suspects wanted for a shooting bailed form a car used in the shots-fired episode.

NPD1 helicopter performed an aerial search of the neighborhood and graveyard for at least one male who remained at-large after police arrested another foot pursuit of another male.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
