Newark Police Announces Amendments to the Burglar, Robbery Alarm Ordinance

Newark Police officials, report that Newark City Council approved and adopted amendments to City Ordinance Title XX, Chapter 4, Burglar and Robbery Alarm.

Officials say this ordinance was amended by adding penalties for continuous violations regarding false alarms, adding registration fees for residential and commercial properties, and increasing the annual registration fee for commercial properties.

The portions of the amended sections of the ordinance are delineated as follows:

**20:4-5 FALSE ALARMS**

A warning notice will be issued when there are three false alarms within 12 months. The 4th will be considered a violation and a fine of $50.00 will be assessed. Five or more false alarms will incur a fine of $100.00 for each additional false alarm and will be considered a violation of this section.

**20:4-7 REGISTRATION**

There shall be an initial registration fee of $85.00 for commercial properties and $50.00 for residential properties.

**20:4-8 PERMITS**

An annual fee of $50.00 shall be charged for each permit. However, owner-occupied 1 to 4 family residential units shall be exempt from the yearly fee requirement.
