Police have a crime scene established in a North Ward neighborhood as they investigate a shooting that left two victims injured this evening in Newark.
Both victims were transported by private vehicles to University Hospital after gunfire rang out in the 80's block of Highland Avenue shortly before 8:55 p.m.
Medical staff at the hospital are treating one of the victims for a gunshot wound to the abdomen at this time.
Police located shell casings and other evidence at the crime scene.
The extent of the victims' injuries are reported as serious but stable condition.
Police are looking for a thin white male that fled the scene after the shooting.
UPDATE 9:34pm: Authorities are confirming one critical and the other in stable condition.
