Authorities from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting that left a person dead in Newark's North Ward overnight.
The shooting occurred at around midnight in the 100 block of Oraton sending police and EMS to the scene where they found the unconscious and unresponsive male suffering gun shot injuries at that location.
Medics pronounced the victim dead a short time later at the scene.
The identity of the victim and the motive for the shooting has not been disclosed at this time.
UPDATE: 7:59am The Prosecutor's Office have confirmed the victim is a 22-year-old male. More details to follow.
