UPDATE: Juveniles Arrested After Armed Robbery Spree in Maplewood, South Orange, Newark, Irvington

Maplewood Newark Irvington Township

A robbery spree conducted by two juveniles who were armed with a gun that included towns in Essex County came to an end Friday afternoon in Irvington Township with officers placing the suspects under arrest.

According to a preliminary statement released by Maplewood Police, their officers notified surrounding municipalities to be on the lookout for two males who committed several robberies in and around the township at around 2 p.m.

Maplewood authorities said that at approximately 2:20 p.m. officers were called to the 50's block of Orchard Road after receiving reports of an armed robbery in progress.

Fast responding units who arrived at the scene found witnesses who reported seeing two male suspects exit a vehicle and grab a woman from behind. Witnesses say one of the males placed a gun to the woman's back and took her purse.

The suspects were occupying a silver 2015 Nissan Altima with reported NJ license plates numbers "R95-JKN" that had damage to its bumper according to reports.

A short time later, police in Newark confirmed that the same suspects wanted in the Maplewood, South Orange, and Irvington armed robberies conducted a robbery on Grove Street in Newark.

Police officers on patrol on Grove Street in Irvington Township reportedly spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the suspected car on Oak Avenue just before 2:45 p.m.

Officers from The Irvington Police Department and the United States Postal Police were on the scene and observed two suspects inside the car.

Authorities say officers took both 16-year-old male suspects into custody, ending the robbery spree.

The suspects were handed over to the affected municipalities where Newark Police charged them with robbery.

Maplewood Police officially charged the males with Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery.

South Orange and Irvington Township did not respond to requests for public information, so it is unclear if the suspects were officially charged.

Maplewood officials say the pair remains in the Essex County Detention facility in Newark.

There were no physical injuries reported in Newark and Maplewood according to officials.
