UPDATE: Newark Man Wanted on Attempted Murder Charges Arrested

Authorities announced that members of the Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Mr. Haneef Taylor, 38, of Newark, wanted for an incident of attempted murder that occurred Monday, June 26, 2017.

According to police, at approximately 6:30 p.m., police responded to Doby Place and Lincoln Street on a call of shots fired. A female victim was shot at by a male known to her following a quarrel that occurred on Sunday.

Detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify Mr. Haneef Taylor as a suspect in this attempted murder and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Detectives and members of the FBI’s Newark Violent Crime Task Force arrested Taylor today without incident.

Police charged Mr. Taylor with Attempted Murder, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Terroristic Threats and three counts of Criminal Mischief.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

“This arrest is another great example of how our joint efforts with the FBI’s Newark Violent Crime Task Force results in the quick apprehension of a dangerous suspect,” Director Ambrose said. “We will continue collaborating with our law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of our residents.”
