Newark Man Steals Safe from Bloomfield Subway Restaurant; Leaving Damages of Over $20K

Bloomfield Newark

A 23-year-old Newark man is accused of stealing a safe from a Bloomfield Subway Restaurant and causing over $20,000 worth of damages to the business.

According to police, Jason Henriques, entered the Subway store - located off Grove Street - through an unlocked back door on March 8th. Security camera footage captured Henriques ransacking the business, leaving food behind on the floor prior to fleeing with cash from the register and the establishment's safe.

With the help of area residents and security camera video, Henriques was arrested Tuesday and charged with burglary and theft.

The safe was recovered at a nearby abandoned home.

Henriques is being held at the Essex County jail without bail.
