Newark Ironbound Teachers’ Food Drive Successful in Reaching Families in Need During Covid-19

Newark

On March 16th, after schools closed around the state, many teachers realized that the families they serve required much more than instruction.

At Oliver Street School in Newark's Ironbound section, several members of the faculty jumped into action.

A collection was started to raise funds for gift certificates to Seabra's Supermarket, and food was collected to be distributed to families according to organizers.

Instructors Ms. Jennifer Baccillieri, Ms. Gianna D'Urso, Ms. Andrea Cito, and Ms. Ilana Rockman spearheaded the collection and delivered these goods to families from Oliver Street, who then sent thanks and messages of gratitude for all their hard work.

Ms. Andrea Henriques, another member of the Oliver Street faculty, banded together with two of her personal friends to begin collecting for families around the city as well.

Through their actions, many of the families they serve were able to rest a little more comfortable, knowing that they were not alone in the fight to keep their families healthy and safe during these trying times.
