Newark Ironbound Officer Injured in Chase of Carjacking Suspects

A Newark Police officer suffered non-life threatening injuries after he fell to the ground during a chase of two suspects wanted for a felony carjacking.

According to preliminary reports, officers began the foot pursuit after two Hispanic male suspects bailed from the carjacked vehicle in the area of Garrison and New York Avenue shortly before 6:15 a.m.

Police say the suspects were last seen wearing dark hoodies and jeans in the 40's block of Garrison.

The police officer was transported to University Hospital after experiencing pain in his stomach, according to preliminary reports.

The suspects remain at-large.
