Newark Firefighters Extricate Trapped Occupants of Newark South Ward Car Wreck Near Weequahic Park

There were injuries reported for occupants inside a vehicle that crashed near a park in Newark's South Ward Sunday evening.

According to police, the collision happened at the intersection of Elizabeth and Chancellor avenues at approximately 7:45 p.m.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and used the 'Jaws of Life' to extricate three victims who were trapped inside the severely damaged vehicle, according to police.

Police say the crashed car lost control and struck a tree at that location.

The victims were transported to the hospital, suffering non-life threatening. The cause of the crash is under investigation by Newark Police.
