Newark Celebrates the Class of 2020 with Citywide Caravan Parade

The Newark Board of Education Superintendent Roger León, will congratulate Class of 2020 graduates during a citywide caravan parade of police and fire vehicles from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2020.

The event is designed to celebrate this year’s graduates for achieving academic milestones in lieu of traditional, in-person ceremonies currently restricted due to the COVID-19 health emergency.

”Over the past few months, Newark students have had to rise to the occasion by pivoting to a study-from-home program that was unprecedented,” Director Ambrose said.

“Our police officers and firefighters want to acknowledge them for their hard work and commitment to academic excellence in the midst of these very tough times.”

The celebratory caravan of police and fire trucks will process from each of the Police Division’s seven precincts, with lights flashing and sirens blaring, to ensure that students citywide are congratulated.
