Montclair Man Charged With Robbery, Spitting on Police Officers in Newark

Authorities in Newark announced the arrest of **Mr. Jason Josaphat, 27, of Montclair**, for robbery, criminal mischief, and aggravated assault on a police officer Friday night.

According to Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at 3:48 am, police responded to reports of a robbery in progress at the Domino’s Pizza located in the 500 block of Bloomfield Avenue.

Director Ambrose said Josaphat and another male occupied a car together when they got into an argument that escalated into a fight.

During the fight, Josephat attempted to steal personal items from the victim who escaped the car and ran into the Dominos Director Ambrose said.

Josaphat pursued the victim, but the employees locked the door as Josaphat attempted to enter the store.

During the incident, Josaphat shattered the glass door during his attempt to gain entry.

State Police in the area detained Josaphat before turning him over to Newark Police officers.

Police charged Josaphat with robbery and criminal mischief for damaging the establishment's door.

Authorities charged Josaphat with aggravated assault for spitting on police officers while they were processing him.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
