”The First Hour of Testing on June 8 Will Be Reserved for Seniors”

BELLEVILLE, NJ – June 1, 2020 – Mayor Michael Melham has announced that township residents can get free COVID-19 testing on Monday, June 8 at Belleville High School.

According to Belleville officials, testing will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the first hour reserved for seniors.

Although testing will be on a first-come, first-served basis, residents are asked to respect the time allotted for seniors’ testing.

The tests will be limited to the first 400 residents who show proof of residency.

Officials say no registration or medical insurance is required.

Residents can have the test done even if they are not showing symptoms.

The tests are made possible by a partnership between Belleville and the Smith Center for Infectious Diseases and Urban Health, a nonprofit organization.

“The only way to end the COVID-19 pandemic is to stop the spread of the virus,” Melham said.

“Because there is no vaccine, testing has become an important tool in mitigating its spread.

We invite residents to take advantage of this opportunity. And, if there is a need, we will look to set up additional testing in the near future.”
