JERSEY CITY NJ: A man who refused to allow state child and family welfare services personnel inside an apartment in the 100 block of Van Wagenen Avenue had Jersey City Emergency Services Units on the scene a short time ago.
A reported welfare check at the residence had state officials on the scene shortly before noon where the suspect refused to allow officials to enter.
Several children were inside the residence while the suspect held police and negotiators at bay for about an hour before finally surrendering.
Officers were able to remove the children and place the man under arrest.
A hazmat unit was called to the scene for an unknown strong odor coming from the apartment.
There were no injuries reported.
